A Network, Not an Issuer

Mastercard is a payment network, not a card-issuing lender. It carries no card receivables and books no credit losses, so the issuer credit metrics Cardintel tracks do not apply.

Mastercard does not lend to cardholders. The credit metrics that anchor Cardintel's issuer briefs do not apply to a network.

Like Visa, Mastercard earns fees on payment volume rather than holding card balances. Net charge-offs, delinquency, and provision are structurally absent because Mastercard takes no consumer credit risk.

Cardintel tracks Mastercard for gross dollar volume, switched transactions, and cross-border activity — the network metrics that reflect consumer and commercial spending. These will appear in a dedicated payments-trends view rather than the issuer-credit format.

Until that view ships, Mastercard's page intentionally shows no credit brief, consistent with Cardintel's policy of reporting only what the underlying data supports.
